Introduction

This training material is a review on using telephone communication with a patient and sends tasks to another person or group within the practice to complete the call.

Accessing Template


1. After opening the patient's chart. Perform 4-point check, correct location, provider, patient and on new encounter unless the patient has a telephone template open for today. 

2. Click on the phone icon under the patient's chart picture or click on the templates icon located at the bottom of the patient history and select the telephone communication template to open.

3. After opening the template, select specialty. Visit type will auto-populate to patient communication. Then expand the Communication panel if not already.

Documenting a Medication Management


1. Click on the 'New Call' button.

2, Click on the 'Call Type' drop-down arrow and select 'Medication Management'.

3. Select the appropriate item in the 'Contact Type' column.

4. Select the appropriate item in the 'Urgency' column.

5. Select the appropriate item in the 'Spoke with' column.

6. Click 'Contact Information'.

7. Select 'Phone Number'

8. Click on 'Pharmacy'

9. If the patient has pharmacy listed, verify with the patient before moving to the medication section. 

10. If the patient has NO pharmacy listed, confirm with the patient which preferred pharmacy. 

11. Click on the 'Search' button to display the pharmacy search window. Enter criteria and click the search button to show results. Select and click 'OK' button. 

12. Click on 'Medication(s)'

13. Select desired medication(s) that are being addressed. If the patient is wanting to change the dosage of that medication, click the arrow to open medication sig. Click in the box to free type desired medication sig. 

14. If unable to identify which medication is being requested, note in the comments box what the patient is requesting about medication.


Tasking 


1. After entry, click on the 'Add and Task' button at the bottom.

2. Tasking window will prompt

3. Select a Due date, Priority, select Recepiant and edit Description if needed.

4. After entry click the 'Send Task' button.


Generating Document


1. A telephone communication document will generate if the call is completed.

2. If needing to generate a document, click the drop-down from the 'Document' button and select Telephone communication.
