Telephone Communication templates that are opened within billable/clinical encounters (and vise-versa) is, unfortunately, a common occurrence. As a result, certain measures have taken place in order to remediate and preserve chart integrity. Please read the following to learn more about avoiding these chart errors.
- Please remember to always do a 4-point-check (provider, location, patient, and encounter) prior to opening any templates.
- The Telephone Communication template and Intake/SOAP templates, in particular, should NEVER be within the same encounter. This causes issues when the encounter is billed.
There are alerts that remind you to do a 4-point-check as well as an alert when attempting to open a telephone communication template within an Intake/SOAP encounter and vice-versa (read below):
- The following alert means you are about to open a Telephone Communication template within an Intake/SOAP encounter. Do NOT proceed to document or save the template, just close without saving and create a new separate encounter first:
