Is your password…P@ssw0rd? Verizon's recent Data Breach Report showed that 81% of hacking-related breaches used either stolen and/or weak passwords. Employees are often found to be the weakest link in security. This why ALTURA passwords require some level of complexity.
Below are our networks complexity requirements:
Passwords must not contain the user's entire account name value.
Passwords must contain characters from three of the following categories:
- Uppercase characters
- Lowercase characters
- Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
- Non alphanumeric characters: ~!@#$%^&*_-+=`|\(){}[]:;"'<>,.?/
- When creating passwords, avoid the following:
- Easy to guess passwords such as "password"
- Your name, spouse’s name, or partner’s name
- Your pet’s name or your child’s name
- String of numbers or letters, like 1234, abcd
- Your phone number or your license plate number
- Anybody’s birth date
- Other information easily obtained about you (e.g., address, town, alma mater)
- Any of the above followed or preceded by a single digit
For optimum security, don't write your password down. If you must write it down, keep it somewhere private such as in a locked drawer or in your wallet. Don’t post it on your computer or anywhere around your desk.
